Pádraigín recipient of Outstanding Contribution Award at Gradam Ceoil TG4 2018

Pádraigín has been awarded Gradam Comaoin (Outstanding Contribution) for Gradam Ceoil TG4 2018. The awards concert will take place at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on Sunday 4 February and will also be broadcast on TG4.

Other awards recipients include Frankie Gavin (Gradam Ceoil), Clare Friel (Ceoltóir Óg), Patsy Hanly (Gradam Saoil), Máire Ní Chéilleachair (Amhránaí na Bliana), Maura O’Keeffe – (Comharcheol) and  The Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band (Gradam Speisialta).

This multi-talented woman is a singer, researcher, poet and composer. She is an authority on the music and song traditions of the Oriel area of Ireland. Her many and wide ranging contributions include 9 recordings of traditional song, children’s song, lullabies and her own acclaimed compositions.

Speaking to Siobhán Long, Pádraigín said: “It’s always nice to get recognition. We’re all very human. An award like this coming at a certain point of your career is very nice because it means that your work is recognised as public work, not personal. And I’m very conscious of doing work for public benefit.
