Pádraigín is delighted to be recognised today among Irish language creative writers, on the Portráidí/Portraits website. For many centuries in Ireland, the works of professional poets were sung poems. It pleases her, as an Irish language songwriter, to be a link in this long and noble lineage.

TG4 air new documentary on Pádraigín – ‘Sé mo Laoch’

Pádraigín has been busy in October 2018 filming an hour long documentary ‘Sé Mo Laoch’ for TG4 to be shown in 2019. It was a unique opportunity to gather in musicians who have shared recordings with her, over the years, including Steve Cooney, Dónal O’Connor, Ódhrán Ó Casaide, Zoe Conway, John McIntyre, Sylvia Crawford, Darren Mag Aoidh, her son Macdara, and share songs with Feilimí & Siubhán O’Connor, Bláithín Mhic Cana, Piaras Ó Lorcáin and Ríoghnach Connolly from Armagh.

Following the major TG4 Gradam Award in the Waterfront Hall in January 2018, Pádraigín was received a further four accolades including ‘Mná an Mhisnigh’ (Women of Courage) Award as part of Bliain na Gaeilge 2018 from Craobh an Iúir de Chonradh na Gaeilge.

Pádraigín also received the Cultural Achievement Award 2018 from GAA An Mullach Bán and a Civic Award 2018, from Newry, Mourne and Down Council for her contribution to local culture. She received the Creative Arts Award 2018 at Fiddler’s Green Festival in Rostrevor, Co. Down.

Major Award presented to Pádraigín in Belfast’s Waterfront – Gradam Ceoil TG4

Pádraigín was presented with one of the 2018 Oscars in traditional music, Gradam Ceoil TG4, for her ‘Outstanding Contribution to Traditional Song’.

She was presented with the award by actor Stephen Rea in the Waterfront theatre in Belfast on February 4.

She performed two songs with singers from Oriel including The Voice Squad. You can watch to Séamus Mac Murfaidh and Gleann na nDeor on YouTube and Facebook.

Pádraigín recipient of Outstanding Contribution Award at Gradam Ceoil TG4 2018

Pádraigín has been awarded Gradam Comaoin (Outstanding Contribution) for Gradam Ceoil TG4 2018. The awards concert will take place at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on Sunday 4 February and will also be broadcast on TG4.

Other awards recipients include Frankie Gavin (Gradam Ceoil), Clare Friel (Ceoltóir Óg), Patsy Hanly (Gradam Saoil), Máire Ní Chéilleachair (Amhránaí na Bliana), Maura O’Keeffe – (Comharcheol) and The Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band (Gradam Speisialta).

This multi-talented woman is a singer, researcher, poet and composer. She is an authority on the music and song traditions of the Oriel area of Ireland. Her many and wide ranging contributions include 9 recordings of traditional song, children’s song, lullabies and her own acclaimed compositions.

Speaking to Siobhán Long, Pádraigín said: “It’s always nice to get recognition. We’re all very human. An award like this coming at a certain point of your career is very nice because it means that your work is recognised as public work, not personal. And I’m very conscious of doing work for public benefit.”

New double CD: ‘Ceoltaí Oirialla -Songs of Oriel’

A new double CD of Oriel songs has been launched on 7 October 2017. Ceoltaí Oirialla – Songs of Oriel contains 27 Oriel songs which Pádraigín has renewed, including 14 accompanied and 14 unaccompanied songs.

A new website of traditional arts in Oriel has been launched to wide critical acclaim. Oriel Arts, which was edited and researched by Pádraigín and funded by An Chomhairle Ealaíon/The Arts Council of Ireland, was launched in the Granvue Hotel in Omeath County Louth on 7 October by Director Emeritus ITMA Nicholas Carolan and Fergus O’Dowd TD.

OrielArts.com was designed by Robbi McMillen of Raya Design Belfast.

Screen presentation was given by Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin which included live performance and illustration from Dónal O’Conor (fiddle), Zoe Conway (fiddle) John McIntyre (guitar) Darren Mhag Aoidh (fiddle) Sylvia Crawford (harp) Feilimí O’Connor, Gerry Cullen, Lillis Ó Laoire, Bláithín Mhic Cana, Piaras Ó Lorcáin, Siubhán O’Connor, Diane Ní Chanainn, Máire Ní Choilm, Brian Ó Domhnaill (singers).
