This collection of songs was conceived around the stove in Len and Pádraigín's home in Mullaghbawn, Co. Armagh, during one of Garry's frequent visits there. The subject of children and music often came up and the songs which they themselves had shared in childhood were seldom to be heard now. The passing on of the song tradition on the grandparent's knee was fast becoming a feature of the past and traditional songs for children where hard to come by.

Both Garry and Pádraigín, having released a much acclaimed album of songs in Irish for young people - A Stór 'S A Stóirín - Songs for All Ages in 1994, decided then, with Len, that it was time to produce a similar collection of English language songs from Ireland. They set to work with some of Ireland's best musicians (Nollaig Casey, Máirtín O' Connor, Ronan Browne, Tommy Hayes) to produce this album, with children in mind, but that would also cut accross the differant generations to appeal to the children in us all.
