New Creative Work

Following the recording of Songs of the Scribe, Pádraigín has begun work on her new creative project – the compilation, composition and recording of a collection of chants and ancient spiritual material for our times. This recording will bring together the varied influences in Pádraigín’s own life, including language, tradition, music and spirituality. Pádraigín is currently in studio with producer / musician Dónal O’Connor.

A Bréifne Song Collection

A Bréifne Song Collection

During a one year residency in the wonderful Glens Centre in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim in 2005, Pádraigín unearthed a significant amount of local traditional airs in old manuscripts. As part of her current Foras na Gaeilge Artistic Residency in the Seamus Heaney Centre she has been in the slow and painstaking process of identifying them as songs and remarrying them to their respctive disparate lyrics. The finished work will contribute greatly to the heritage of the Bréifne area of Leitrim/Cavan, and to the national song canon of traditional song.

Songs for Children

Songs for Children

Pádraigín has already recorded a wonderful and much acclaimed collection of Irish songs for children, A Stór is a Stóirín, which has been recently re issued by Gael Linn. She has being in studio recording a new collection of songs in English with producer Dónal O’Connor which is expected to be released in 2012. A further creative aspect of this project is a collaboration with visual artist Gilly Cullen towards a publication of visual song material for children. More information to come.

A Hidden Ulster and Oriel

A Hidden Ulster and Oriel

In collaboration with Robbi McMillen, a new website – to access digitally the rich song heritage of the ancient Oriel region of South East Ulster – is being designed. This will include recordings of songs published in the celebrated A Hidden Ulster, which have and are being recorded – some with accompaniment, and many sung in sean-nos style. Photographs of ancestors from Oriel and background infomation will be included. It is expected that this will further enhance the Oriel region as one of the richest in Ireland in song, music, heritage, literature and mythology.
